Hypnotherapy for Fears and Phobias

Protection is the main aim of our unconscious. When we have a negative experience our brain takes a snapshot of it, stores it and tells us to avoid it all costs. This is what should happen and works very well in most situations. But often it can affect us in a negative way.

It certainly might not feel this way, but these are usually symptoms of your unconscious trying to protect you by trying to avoid something that it’s learnt is threatening.

This learning could be from something obvious, like someone in your childhood putting you down, or something more subtle.

It doesn’t matter what it is, just that we can change how this affects you now. Hypnotherapy can be very powerful in redefining the positive intention behind the unconscious protective response.

I’ve seen so many clients for fear of flying where part of us is rational, knows it’s one of the safest forms of travelling and really wants to go on holiday. The other part goes into the stress response, giving us a boost of adrenaline to help us escape. Maybe that makes us behave in a way that feels out of control or out of character, which only adds extra layers of embarrassment and judgement, making our fear of it happening again even greater.

It can be a similar pattern whatever the fear is.

Cognitive Hypnotherapy is amazing at transforming fear;  we can get to the root of the experience or belief (it doesn’t matter if you know what the cause is already or not) and help downgrade it from high alert back down to something normal we can deal with again.
